Active Fire Protection

Active fire protection encompasses all systems and equipment designed to detect and fight a fire immediately: extinguishers, equipped fire hose reels (BIE), automatic detection systems, sprinklers and emergency signage. The regulatory framework governing active fire protection in Spain is the Regulation of Fire Protection Installations (RIPCI), approved by Royal Decree 513/2017. This regulation sets the technical requirements for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of all equipment, and requires installer companies to be listed in the regional Register of Installer Companies. In Catalonia, this register is managed by the Department of Enterprise and Labour of the Generalitat, which verifies the technical authorisation and civil liability coverage of each company.
